Section A 1a - Using real media conventions

Music video -

1) Genre-Hip hop, the conventions of hip hop are urban environments, baggy clothing, a lot of close ups of the characters so the audience can identify with them. Establishing shots are common to reveal the settings which are usually street or cityscapes.

2) We developed evolved and used these conventions in our development of costume, planning of setting and location ( south bank skate park) the inclusion of graffiti in various shots in our music video, and also the props ( nextmen skateboard ) Use of colour especially the grayscale is common in hip hop music videos as it creates atmosphere. We referenced Lupe Fiascos music video 'kick push' with our use of urban environments and skate board as props. We also referenced eminems video in our continued use of  close-ups that focus on the main character so the target audience can identify with the artist.

3) Using genre conventions helped creation massively as it gave us a focus of how to go about production, planning and post-production. It also enabled us to see how we could evolve the genre conventions and develop them further.

4) Over the last 2 years I have learnt how to look at micro-elements in relation to genre conventions. Studying the mise-en-scene, camerawork and editing I have been able to see the stereotypical conventions. Focusing on genre characteristics it has

Ollie's view on the last 2 years( about genre)
